White Noise

I read this for a book club, and ultimately I'm not sorry I read it. There is a lot of valuable information and insight to be had. And after 2 hours worth of disucssion, I actually liked it more than I thought.

My biggest problem is not the subject matter or the sociological comments the author makes. My biggest complaint is the language. Language is very important to me. A fellow book club member (also one of my favorite professors) said it perfectly: to me, language should be the vessel through which ideas, plot, story, characters and commentary is delivered.

In this book, the language was more like its own separate character. That was the author's intention of course, and I can respect it. But I don't have to like it. I prefer a story with more plot and narrative.

This one goes down in the category of I'm glad I read it, but I'm glad it's over.
