Teaser Tuesday

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
I've been wanting to start participating in this meme for months now, and I'm finally going to get around to it. I realize it is Monday night, but if I wait until tomorrow to do it, I won't get it done.

This week I'm reading "The Junior Officer's Reading Club" by Patrick Hennessey. Stay tuned for a review sometime next week (I hope - this week is extremely busy).

I know I"m supposed to open to a random page, but I don't like the idea of opening to a page past the point I've reached in the book, so I'll open it to the page I'm on. Here, the author is describing events of a 4 day field training exercise during the British Army Officer's basic training camp:

"Friendships were forged like lightning in that adversity.... My basher-buddy Bowmont and I had been engaged in a miserable discussion which had moved depressingly from what we were doing one month before (he - beach in Brazil, I - lounging in Paris) to what would induce us to come out from under our poncho (apparently not even Elle Macpherson offering a blozzer 20 metres away), but now, cracked by the fatigue and the absurdity of it all, we just broke down in hysterics..."

I'm such a nerd that I had to look up the word blozzer. Also, he spelled meters wrong. :)

  1. I don't open to pages I haven't read yet, either.

What a convoluted passage. Interesting teaser, but I think I'll pass on this one.

    My teaser is here.

  2. I see your point about it being convoluted, but if you imagine it spoken in a British accent it's much better. :) I like your teaser, and agree with it as well! Yay - a new blog to follow! Thanks for commenting!

  5. Actually metre isn't spelt wrong. There are lots of countries in the world where it is spelt that way - including most British Commonwealth countries like Britain, Australia etc. In fact, to me, meter looks spelt incorrectly!

Here is my teaser for this week.

  6. I was just going to say the same. I'm Australian and that spelling looks fine to me :)Sounds like an interesting book. You can find my teaser at The Bookish Snob

  7. The comment about metre being spelled wrong was a joke. It's so hard to convey tone in writing! Also since some of you don't know me, you don't know my sarcasm.

Anyways, I've checked out all of your teasers too. Thanks for the comments. I love being part of this community!

  12. Very interesting teaser. I don't blame you for not opening to to a point you've not read.
